Stop Your Smart Phone From Freezing Up: a blog about how to fix common samsung phone issues.

This is a guide to the most common Samsung phone issues. One thing we at Zachary's Phone Repair want to express before going any further is that this post is not meant to be a complete guide to replacing parts on your Samsung. There are many steps and reasons why we suggest you bring your phone into the shop. So, let's begin!

If a program freezes up and won't close, go to your phone’s Settings app and then tap Apps. Swipe over to the Running tab, select the program you want to stop and then tap the Stop button. If you don’t see the troublesome app in the list, tap the Show Cached Processes toggle in the upper-right corner of the screen.

If your iPhone or Android phone seems to be frozen, restarting it might solve the problem. To restart your iPhone or Android phone, hold down the sleep/power button for a few seconds until it asks you if you really want to turn off your phone; confirm that you do and your phone will power off. Once it’s off, hold down the power button again until the screen turns on; your phone should be up and running again after a few moments.

Force-restart your phone:

There are two ways to restart a frozen phone: the standard shut-down-and-restart method, or a more complicated hard-restart method. The standard shut-down-and-restart method is easy on iOS devices because you just hold down the power button until the phone turns off, then turn it back on by pressing the power button again for a few seconds. Unfortunately, Android phones have slightly different hard-restart methods depending on the phone. As a general rule of thumb, though, you can force many Android phones to shut down by holding down the power button and volume-up button until the screen goes dark. From there, power on your phone again by pressing the power button for a few seconds. If neither of these buttons work, refer to your phone’s documentation for further instructions.

Remove the battery:

If your Android phone is frozen solid and has a removable battery, one of the easiest ways to restart it is to remove the battery for a few seconds before putting it back into place. Simply pop off the back cover, remove the battery, then put it back in place and snap on the back cover again. Once you've done that, hold down the power button for a few seconds to turn the phone back on. This method should only be used if standard methods of powering off and restarting your phone fail, however.

Restore to factory defaults:

If you’re having problems with your phone and you find that troubleshooting isn't worth the hassle, you can reset your phone to factory settings. To do so, open your phone's Settings app, scroll down, and tap the Backup and Reset menu. Next, look for Factory data reset, and tap it. Your phone will ask you to confirm that you want to do the deed; once you do, it will restore itself to pristine, fresh-from-the-factory settings.
